But Mamas know better.
Mama bloggers are the extended family and friend network of the 21st century. So many of us live at a significant geographical (or emotional?) distance from our own families that mommy blogs fill a significant void in our motherhood experience. Even those of us who are closer to our families find comfort, humor, encouragement and acceptance from other Mamas online.
In celebration of this form of honest, informative--and occasionally snarky--dialogue, I'd like to share a short list of some of my favorite Mama bloggers who are, at the end of the day, just blogging through it. Like the rest of us.
Favorite New (to me) Blog: Ann's Rants--Confessions of a Work Week Widow. OK, this is some funny shit, Mamas. She's a writer, she's a Mama, she's up to her elbows in pull-ups and she retains her sense of humor. She's also something of a potty mouth. This is a woman I could share a margarita with. No doubt about it.
Teachable Moments Blog: eensies is a wonderful blog, written by two elementary school teachers with armloads of ideas to share. It's a real asset for anyone with a little one who wants to move beyond Dora and all that other "smart" TV nonsense. These ladies actually know what they're talking about.
For the Mama Who Works Outside the Home: The Mama Bee is a smart, sharp blog totally plugged in to the delicate balance a working Mama negotiates daily.
Best Bargains, by Mamas, for Mamas: Cool Mom Picks. Surely you've heard of these ladies. They know everything about everything that every Mama needs to know.
Daddy Love: Lest I be accused of sexism, I'd like to highlight the fabulous work of some of the lesser common Daddy bloggers. They are funny, honest and in possession of that mysterious Y chromosome. They should also be paid the same wage as we Mama bloggers. Wait...
Two of my favorites are Pacing the Panic Room and Cry it Out. These guys aren't afraid to tell it like it is, leaky diapers and all.
